Greetings

Institute of Namdo Provincial Culture was founded in March 1985, to study the folk culture of Honam and the southern coast of Korea. In the same year, ‘Namdo Munhwa Yongu’ was first published and it has been published for the last 30 years, making 2014 issue the 27th. As an affiliated organization of Institute of Mt. Jiri Region Cultural Studies, from 2007, we hosted numerous academic conferences and guest lectures. We will continue to pursue the development of Namdo provincial culture studies.

The purpose of this establishment

Institute of Namdo Provincial Culture will perform following missions to promote the succession and development of regional cultures by studying and researching cultures of Mt. Jiri and folk cultures of Honam and southern coast of Korea.
  • 1. Excavation, investigation, and study of heritage of Honam region and southern coast of Korea– heritage related to folk cultures of Honam region and southern coast of Korea and mountainous cultures of Mt. Jiri.
  • 2. Interchange and joint-research with related organizations and groups
  • 3. Publication of academic journals and materials and hosting of symposiums
  • 4. Other research related to this institute
